Tips for Saving Money on Toner Cartridges

If you use a laser printer, as many people do, you'll need toner cartridges. Laser printers are right up there in popularity with inkjet printers, but work a little differently. One difference is the type of cartridges used. Inkjets use ink, while laser printers require an ink substance called toner. On average, laser printers are a bit more costly than an inkjets but also more technologically advanced. Most laser printers can print in both black and full color. Black cartridges are usually much cheaper than color ones are, but can still be costly depending on the type of printer you have. For people who print a great deal, constantly buying toner can get quite expensive. In this article, you'll learn a few handy ways to save money on your laser printing costs.

Remanufactured toner cartridges are a great way to reduce costs. A remanufactured, or recycled toner cartridge is one that's been used then professionally refilled. A remanufactured cartridge costs less than a brand new one, but works just as well. Many stores have recycling programs where customers donate their used cartridges to be refilled and resold at a bargain. It's good for the environment and your wallet!

Some adventurous laser printer users refill their own toner cartridges to save even more money. This can get messy and depending on the type of cartridge you use, can be complicated. If you choose to refill your laser toner cartridge on your own, do so over a sink or at least over some protective newspaper. Some people even wear rubber gloves to prevent pesky toner stains on hands. When shopping for a refill kit, write your printer model down on paper and take it with you to the store. Simply check the various refill kits to find the one compatible with your laser printer.

Shopping for printer, fax and copier toners online is another way to find great bargains. Many online retailers specialize in selling discount toner cartridges of all kinds. If you can, buy in bulk. You'll find that whether you shop in person or on the Internet, buying large quantity packs of cartridges can save you a lot of money. If you print a lot, this really adds up!
